An Informal Cooking Show
As you know, I am a huge fan of virtual tours. You can see some of the beautiful and amazing places I’ve visited on the World Tours page. Today, though, is the day that I begin sharing cuisine tours as I have realized I am fascinated by the way other humans cook around the globe.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching one of my favorite guides, Elizabeth Puma, and her husband prepare a lovely dish called Adobo Arequipeno – and I was fascinated by all the knowledge I gained from watching others cook. Adobo is a dish with pork, chili peppers, onions, Concho de chicha de jora, purple corn and a variety of spices. First, the clay pot was seasoned to help ensure flavoring. Next, the ingredients were slowly added and prepared to marinade overnight.

This morning, we were able to join Elizabeth and her family for this amazing Adobo breakfast. They enjoyed the adobo with fresh bread from the bakery, tea, and Anis Najar. We watched while her husband lovingly served his family the meal they prepared last night and finished cooking this morning.

After Elizabeth’s husband finished serving the meal to everyone in the family, she said her goodbyes to have breakfast with her family. It was truly lovely for her to share this experience for anyone in the world to watch.

For those of you who would like to check out this recipe for yourself, please visit Elizabeth’s Heygo.com page for more information in her posts.
Remembering We Are Different
It is important that we understand all cultures have different practices and norms than our own – and the differences are what makes the journey of being an outsider so beautiful to me. I had no idea that clay pots were used for cooking in different parts of the world. In fact, I have since discovered it is actually very common. I did not know that some peppers are so hot that one must use gloves to guarantee their hands do not burn. I did not know that we can actually eat purple corn. These statements sound silly, but we genuinely do not know the array of cultural practices unless we are exposed to them.
Find a way to be curious about those around us and throughout the world. I hope it will change your life as much as it continues to change mine…
Until next time…
Peace and love,
