Let’s Rethink Immigration

The Real Causes of Migration

Humans around the globe desire to live in developed nations because of the abundance of opportunity. People want greater access to resources, education, and the ability to build wealth. It is natural to want better for our families and ourselves. It is natural to want to be safe, healthy, and stable.

Immigration is often negatively viewed because the citizens of any nation do not want outsiders encroaching upon and utilizing their finite resources. The truth is, though, that immigration is necessary. People have historically moved around the planet for better access to food, water and resources. The climate changes around the globe, whether man-made or just a natural shift in the environment. Political structures collapse, no longer offering safe havens of existence. Organized crime becomes a norm because it is an easy way of building ones wealth, unfortunately at the expense of the population.

Choose to be More Accepting

When we talk about immigration in America, we often think about criminals escaping their motherland to come wreak havoc in our own beautiful country. We think about drug trafficking, human trafficking, and the drain on our welfare system that immigrants are perceived to cause. We often forget that immigrants are the ones working jobs that most Americans do not want to work. We forget that it is often because of their labors that we have affordable access to fresh foods. We forget their contributions to the growth of our technology that enhances our lives by creating modern conveniences. And last but not least, we always forget that nearly all of our own lineage is from immigrants, too.

Create New Solutions

I will be the first to admit that the immigration system in America needs a revamp. There has to be a better solution available that accommodates the needs of humans coming from other areas of the planet in pursuit of a better life than the one they left, while ensuring the security that Americans so deeply value. The system we have established is what is broken – and it is time to fix it. It is time to think outside the box, perform a comparative analysis to the actions other countries take, generate new ideas, and proceed with a better plan.

We cannot negate our humanity out of fear. It is our job as humans to look out for our fellow humans. We all deserve the same opportunities to exist and thrive.

Until next time…

Peace and love,

Jessica ❤️
